Capacity First. Everything Else Follows.

The Resilience Arc™

The Resilience Arc™ is an applied behavioral pathway developed by Micah Hill that describes how individuals and teams move through pressure once capacity is present.

The Arc outlines a three-stage sequence Pause, Pivot, and Rise that activates during disruption, sustained demand, or inflection points where performance must continue.

Capacity determines what holds under pressure.
The Resilience Arc™ describes how behavior organizes inside it.

Overview

The Resilience Arc™ maps how behavior shifts when pressure is active and capacity is sufficient.

Rather than focusing on recovery or preparation, the Arc describes the sequence leaders and operators move through while demands remain present.

Pause creates space for signal recognition.
Pivot redirects action with intention.
Rise reflects stabilized execution over time.

The Arc does not generate capacity. It relies on it. When capacity is available, the sequence holds.

Framework Structure

Stage 1: Pause

The conscious decision to stop reacting, create space, and assess reality without judgment. Pause draws on available capacity to interrupt automatic response and allow signal clarity. Introduced through The Apostrophe™ Journal, which helps individuals anchor in stillness before movement.  Core Focus: Awareness

Stage 2: Pivot

The active choice to shift perspective or direction using The Grit Switch™, a tool that rewires energy and reframes identity when progress stalls. Pivot converts capacity into intentional redirection. Core Focus: Intention

Stage 3: Rise

The stage of embodied action where new systems, boundaries, and self-concepts take root. Rise reflects sustained function once behavior stabilizes under load. Often captured through This Version™, representing personal expansion and sustained growth. Core Focus: Evolution

Purpose and Applications

The Resilience Arc™ is used when capacity is already established and pressure is active.

It is used in leadership development, executive coaching, team training, and well-being programs.

It serves as a foundation for Hill’s Expansion Method™, which includes Awareness, Intention, and Evolution as its core pillars.

In organizations, the Arc helps leaders and teams:

  • Identify when they are stuck in reaction mode
  • Build emotional regulation and nervous system capacity
  • Foster intentional decision-making and behavior change
  • Stabilize trust and execution following disruption

Origin

Micah Hill introduced the Resilience Arc™ publicly in 2025 through the Flip the Grit Switch™ podcast series, where Pause, Pivot, and Rise were articulated as a repeatable behavioral sequence observed inside sustained pressure.

The Arc was formalized through applied work in leadership environments and later nested within the True Basis capacity framework as a downstream pathway.

The framework informs Hill’s keynote The Grit Switch™ and the Grit Switch Group™ program.
